Celebrate Cycling with an Eye on Safety

Cycling in Berkshire has increased by 22% in the last 10 years as residents choose healthier and more sustainable forms of transport, but that is not with any risks.

Pedal cycle casualties in Berkshire increased from 256 in 2010 to 344 in 2011, an increase of 34%. Although there the 11-15 age group is most at risk, the growing area for concern is among the adult population where casualty numbers are increasing.

Safer Roads will be attending a number of cycling related events throughout Bike Week promoting Urban Limits particularly aiming to engage with adults who are returning to cycling.

As part of the fun of bike week we will be running the Urban Limits competition throughout, where people can see how far they can cycle in the ‘Golden Minute Challenge’. Anyone over the age of 16 can enter all they have to do is see how far they can cycle in just one minute on a static bike. The furthest distance recorded each day will win the rider a goodie bag, and another 9 will win a limited-edition high-vis Urban Limits backpack cover
