Cycle Mania Takes Place in Wokingham

On Wednesday 29th May 2013, the Urban Limits Team made an appearance at the Market Place in Wokingham, as part of the Wokingham Cycling Roadshow.

Joined by Wokingham Borough Council (WBC), in conjunction with Cycle Experience Ltd, members of the community, both young and old, came along to have some fun by trying out a range of different bikes and getting involved with cycling challenges, as well as gaining cycle safety advice.  Urban Limits ran the ‘Golden Minute Challenge’ where members of the public were encouraged to ride the bike as fast as they could for one minute to get their name and distance score on the leader board. Everyone who took part was entered into a free prize draw to win a Garmin Edge 800 and this stirred some competitive results!

Steve Ferris, Urban Limits team member said: “Interacting with members of the community in this way is great for encouraging people to get on a bike and have some fun. The event also allows us to give safety tips and advice for anybody who has an interest in cycling.”

Other activities that took place included a free bike surgery and free bike security check, as well as a bike challenge to blend your own smoothie!

Jill Bissell, WBC’s Cycle Training Co-ordinator said: “The aim of the roadshow was to encourage more people to ride bikes, no matter what age, as it’s a great way to keep fit and healthy. The WBC Road Safety Team, along with the Road Safety Constables were also on hand to give advice on cycling safety and cycle routes, as well as selling cycle helmets and hi-vis armbands and handing out free slapbands.”

The event proved to be a great success and the Urban Limits Team will be making their next appearance at the Tour of Berkshire Cycle Event on 10th – 12th July 2013.
