Know Your Bike

If you have been around bike for a while you probably know the major components and their various names but for those new to cycling some of the terminology can be a little bewildering.  The diagram above labels all of the major parts of a bike (in this case a mountain bike).

Many of the components have different names e.g. derailleur / mech and some of them can be broken down into their individual parts; the chainset consists of the crank arm, spider and chain rings (and sometimes the bottom bracket).  Although it would be great to know every single part of every component, unless you work in a bike shop there probably isn’t any need!  Instead you only need to know the things that are most likely to go wrong or need attention in between servicing.
